About that calendar of upcoming events…

The Legal Genealogist really can read a calendar.

Really.

And in reading a calendar really does understand that something that ends in August can still begin in July and should be included in July events.

Sigh…

So let’s try this one more time.

Starting on Monday, July 28, and ending on Friday, August 1, the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) of the Georgia Genealogical Society will run its virtual institute with 12 classes offering in-depth instruction in a wide variety of subjects.

The institute’s three core courses — Methods and Sources in Practice; Intermediate Genealogy and Historical Studies; and my own Advanced Methodology and Evidence Analysis — offer a great way to begin or advance your genealogical education. And added to that are offerings ranging from Japanese genealogy to DNA to Pennsylvania research to maps to…

Well, you get the idea.

There are seats available in most, if not all classes, and there’s a fall course beginning September 11 in Repository Research: From Website to Doorway, How to Find What You Need.

A word about my Advanced Methodology and Evidence Analysis course… it’s challenging… and it’s fun. It’s like drinking from a genealogical fire hose. And it will test your skills. It’s taught by some of the best in our field — and it’s a don’t-miss chance to see just how good you are — and how good you can be. We’d love to have you…

And if you’d prefer your genealogical education in person, there are still a few seats available for my other July institute course, at the GRIP Genealogy Institute, being held in person 14-19 July in new digs at the University of Pittsburgh this year. Rick Sayre and I are co-coordinating the course Legal Landscapes: Mapping Family History Through Law Library Records. It covers a wide variety of record types, from court records to land and vital records, with a focus on particular legal resources available both online and in brick-and-mortar law libraries to learn just how the law can often provide the key to solving difficult genealogical problems. And yes… we will have access to a brick-and-mortar law library — and some really way-cool law databases.

Choose one, choose both, but don’t be left behind. Summer camp for genealogists is not to be missed.

Hope to see you in July!
