One more day for pre-registration pricing

The deadline is tomorrow, May 22, 2019.

That’s it for pre-registration pricing for what probably wins the title as the most-fun-genealogical-conference-around.

It’s the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree, and 2019 is its 50th anniversary year.

And yeah The Legal Genealogist is going to be right in the thick of it.

SCGS Jamboree

It’s held in Burbank, California, at the Los Angeles Marriott-Burbank Airport Hotel, and with this being the 50th year it’s going to be such a party…

It kicks off with workshops and DNA lectures on Thursday, May 30, more workshops and general presentations on Friday, May 31, and solid days of presentations on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.

Just as a very few selections from the long list of talks:

Thursday: Angie Bush on New Pro Tips and Tools for DNA. Paul Woodbury on Look Before You Leap: Developing a DNA Testing Plan. Leah Larkin on Uses and Misuses of Segment Data. Yours truly on DNA and the Hidden Half of the Family.

Friday: Daniel Earl on Funeral Homes and Family History: They’re Dying to Meet You, Yours truly on “Death by Undue Means”: Coroner’s Records. (Sounds morbid, doesn’t it…) Nicka Sewell-Smith on Saying Their Names: Systems to Track and Document Communities. And a film I can’t wait to see — Glenn Yamada’s documentary, We Were Americans.

Saturday: Fritz Juengling on Meyers Gazetteer Now Online Indexed and Fully Searchable! Tony Burroughs on From Census to Slavery. Yours truly on Revelers, Hogkillers and Disobedient Children: Early State Laws. Colleen Greene with two presentations focused on Mexican Civil Registration Records and Mexican Parish Registrations.

Sunday: Cyndi Ingle on Off the Shelf: The Unexplored Potential for eBooks in Genealogy. Dave Obee on Canadiana’s Genealogical Treasures. Peggy Clemens Lauritzen on Colonial Censuses in British America. Lisa Alzo on Silent Voices: Telling the Stories of Your Female Immigrant Ancestors.

And those are just a few choices. You can see the whole schedule on the Jamboree website schedule page here.

Banquet speakers will include Blaine Bettinger on Thursday on The Promise and Peril of DNA Testing for Genealogy, yours truly on Friday on Blackguards and Black Sheep – The Lighter Side of the Law, and D. Joshua Taylor on Saturday on Family History: What the Future Holds. And there are breakfast talks and roundtables and … oh you get the idea.

This is a major-league genealogical get-together.

So… there’s still time to get in with a price cut. Pre-registration will save you a bit from the on-site registration costs when things get underway, and ensure you a seat in workshops you may be interested in.

The pricing system is mix-and-match. You can attend for one day or all, attend workshops or not, join in the banquets and breakfasts or not. But in every case, there’s a discount for registering by the end of the day tomorrow, May 22, and there’s always a discount for SCGS members (and you can join now and get the discount… just sayin’ …).

Check it all out on the Jamboree website pricing page here. Note that some Friday sessions are even free.

Hope to see you next week in Burbank!
