To the hosts and more of 2025

Wait just a minute here.

Hold on.

It isn’t really already…?

How can it be…?

Seriously…?

Can it really be the end of 2025?

Thank you 2025

Yep. Here we are again, coming up fast on the end of another busy year, and a time to step up and acknowledge all the many people who made a difference this year. Who helped keep me afloat. Who kept my spirits up. Who taught me. Who challenged me. Who gave me a chance to be heard. Who were there.

So the traditional year-end thanks goes out here at the end of 2025 to each and every single one of my 2025 hosts:

And a huge thank-you also goes to the institutes where I was privileged to teach in 2025, and to the students I was privileged to teach and to learn from. At the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), I served as coordinator of the “Corpus Juris: Advanced Legal Concepts for Genealogy” course. At the in-person session of the GRIP Genealogy Institute, I served as co-coordinator with Rick Sayre of the “Legal Landscapes: Mapping Fsamily History through Law Library Records” course. At the Institute for Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), I served as coordinator of the “Advanced Methodology & Evidence Analysis” course. And thanks to the other coordinators who let me come play in their classes at these institutes and at the Texas State Genealogical Society’s Texas Institute of Genealogical Research, the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records and the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute.

This has been a busy year. And, on a personal level, a hard year. To all of you who’ve made it survivable, my thanks. To all of you who kept me safe and sane this year — and you know who you are — my special thanks. To my friend and genealogical colleague Helen Smith, my very special thanks for being my Down Under travel companion and hand-holder.

And to you, the readers of this blog… what can I say? You’ve challenged me, taught me, laughed with me, cried with me. And here, at year’s end, we can finally say we made it through another crazy year.

The bottom line, as always, is that any year with good friends — old and new — is a good year.

Onward… to what we all can hope will be a safe, happy, healthy 2026.
