Another branch on our tree
Every adoptive family knows the dates.
The date the phone call comes in that maybe, perhaps, if everything goes well, there may be a child for you.
Because that’s the date you begin to love that child.
The date the call comes in that, yes, in fact, there is a child for you.
Because that’s the date you begin to believe you’ll be allowed to love that child.
The date the child actually is placed in your arms, your home, your family.
Because that’s the day you fall heads over heels in love.
And begin to fear.
Fear that something will go wrong.
Fear that it won’t happen.
Fear that the birth parents will decide that, after all, they cannot give up that child. Or that you’re not the parents they really want for that child.
Fear that you’ll do something wrong and the adoption agency will decide you’re not the parents they really want for that child.
Fear that the day will never come when you can breathe easy and know that love can be forever.
And then the date the call comes in that the court can hear your case.
When you begin to believe that maybe, just maybe, it is going to happen.
And then the date when it’s official.
And she’s ours.
When in fact dreams really do come true.
Welcome to our family, Nora Elayne, daughter of my brother’s daughter.
We have loved you since the first day we ever thought you might be ours.
We are so happy to have you!!
I am adopted and my daughter is adopted. And, yes – when we adopted her I went through all the excitement and fears for 6 months hoping nothing would change in the process and that we would have her forever. When I was asked to give a newborn photo of her to the birth mother, I hesitated thinking it would only be something that would keep her from moving on, but I know a birth mother will always have a tie to her child and thus having the photo would only be a small way for us to say thank you for making the sacrifice.
I am someone’s birth mother, and those photos her family has sent me over the years are some of my most precious possessions.
It is what allowed me to get on with the business of getting on with my life.
Oh my gosh, she is so adorable! Congratulations on the new addition!
Congratulations on the new baby girl, she is just precious. Beautiful family! 🙂
She is absolutely lovely!!!
As they say down here, “cuter than a bugs ear”.
She is absolutely adorable!
That has got to be one of the cutest babies ever! Congratulations to all of you!
She is beautiful! Congratulations to the happy parents and the entire family! (As an adoptive mom with a family who are big Disney World fans, I think that photo is one of the cutest adoption announcements I’ve ever seen.)
Congratulations! She is adorable!
