The rockstars, 2016

The Legal Genealogist has said it before: there’s an old adage that says you’re best known by the company you keep.

And, once again, here in 2016, boy do I hope that’s true.

Because I am in amazing company right now, thanks to you and your votes in the Genealogy Rockstar voting over at John D. Reid’s blog Anglo-Celtic Connections.

The rockstars are the people John describes as “those who give ‘must attend’ presentations at family history conferences or as webinars, who when you see a new family history article or publication by that person, makes it a must buy. If you hang on their every word on a blog, podcast or newsgroup, or follow avidly on Facebook or Twitter they are likely Rockstar candidates.”1

And I am so grateful to be included in that company, once again, here in 2016. And so honored, and so humbled, to have garnered the top votes in the international, US, and genetic genealogy categories. And to be standing side by side with so many of my colleagues and friends around the world.

Here’s the company your votes landed me in, this year, in three different categories:2

International, USA, Genetic Genealogy

Judy G. Russell

CeCe Moore

Blaine T. Bettinger

For all of us, and for the genetic genealogy community, it doesn’t get much better than this.

But there’s more. So much more. The voting honors and recognizes our colleagues around the world, as well, including our genetic genealogy colleagues Debbie Cruwys Kennett and Maurice Gleeson. So many of the honorees are wonderful people we can all learn so much from, and I’m delighted to be able to call many of them friends.

The winners around the world are:

Australia/New Zealand

Jill Ball — Geniaus

Shauna Hicks —

Michelle Patient —

Helen V. Smith —

Gail Dever — Genealogy à la carte

Lorine McGinnis Schulze —

Christine Woodcock —

Kirsty Gray — Family Wise Ltd

Chris Paton —

Debbie Cruwys Kennett —

Maurice Gleeson

John Grenham —

Claire Santry —

If we are indeed known by the company we keep, well, all I can say is … I am honored… and humbled … to be in this company.
