After the storm
The Legal Genealogist rides again!
I can assure you that there’s not a whole lot that’s more disconcerting than having about a minute left to check your online accounts before boarding the first of two planes and nine hours of cross country travel…
… And discovering that someone else has decided to have some fun with your website.
Yep, even The Legal Genealogist is not immune to the hacker’s attack. I can only be grateful that, as attacks go, this one seems to have been fairly mild. Only a little bit of the code here was affected — and nothing in that code could have affected anyone trying to access the site for legitimate reasons.
Though everything seems to have weathered the storm, no regular post will follow until a little bit of time has passed to be sure things will stay up and running.
Thanks to all who reached out to let folks know what had happened!
I am so sorry this happened to you! I very happy that you are back up and running. Is there any way for you to track down who did this?
It’s an international hacker probably running an automated system. No way to deal with the hacker — my job to protect myself from future attacks instead.
Judy, so glad there was “minimal” damage! Computers are such a mixed bag aren’t they? I have a kind-of love/hate relationship with them. I’m not very good at using them but it seems to me that they are either working so well that you keep wondering how long that can last, or they’re being a royal pain in the backside!
Or they’re both a wonder AND a royal pain at the same time, Mary Ann! Sure wish you were closer so I could see you while I’m here in California.
Oh, I nearly wept when you said you were changing planes in San Francisco! I’m only 60 miles away! If you schedule a plane change in S.F. again, try to schedule a longer layover and I’ll gladly drive down to spend some time with you!!
I didn’t have a lot of options on this trip, Mary Ann. But I’m working on something for early 2014 that may work…
Oh, good. I can’t wait to hear the details!
I hope everything falls back into place with no damage. I don’t understand why some folks would rather destroy others’ creations than work on their very own creations!
All is well, Mariann. There was no serious damage done to the website and nobody was ever at risk.
