DNA sales end, GRIP registration begins

The Legal Genealogist wouldn’t want you to miss out.

Nope, nope, nope.

Not on saving money on DNA tests (there are sales that end tomorrow).

And not on the great classes at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh — a/k/a GRIP (registration begins tomorrow).

Don't forgetFor the DNA sales, take a gander back at Sunday’s post with all the details: Love is in the DNA air.1

Sales end tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, 14 February, for the Family Tree DNA Valentine’s Sale, the 23andMe Valentine’s Sale and the MyHeritageDNA Valentine’s Sale. (Sales continue with AncestryDNA’s Winter Sale ending 25 February and LivingDNA’s sale without a current expiration date).

Tomorrow is a day for beginnings as well, with registration for three separate weeks of genealogical instruction beginning at GRIP. Week 1 is 24-29 June 2018 at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh; Week 2 is 22-27 July 2018, also at LaRoche College; and a new Week 3 will be held 29 July-3 August 2018 at Daemen College, Amherst, New York (Buffalo). Details on all the courses to be offered in each session can be found in the blog post Get a GRIP for 2018.2

But you’ll forgive me, and understand (I think), if I mention one course in particular… In Week 2, 22-27 July 2018, at LaRoche College, the course I coordinate, Women and Children First! Research Methods for the Hidden Half of the Family, is on the schedule and, of course, I think it’s pretty much the perfect offering for just about anybody. The women of our families — mothers, sisters, wives — and the children they bore and raised comprise far more than just a hidden half of our families: in fact, they greatly outnumbered the menfolk. Yet they left fewer traces in the records and researching these family members effectively poses challenges for any genealogist. We’ll explore in this course the question of why we should –- and how we can –- research women and children first. So join me and instructors Catherine B. W. Desmarais, Thomas W. Jones, Kelvin Meyers, Michael Ramage, Richard G. Sayre, and Marian Smith of USCIS, for a great week learning about Women and Children First! Research Methods for the Hidden Half of the Family.

But whatever you do… don’t forget!

Tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, 14 February, is a day of endings and beginnings you don’t want to miss.
