January’s class lineup!!

Got your calendar marked?

Got your alarm set?

Got your fingers limbered up?

Good. Because registration for the 2015 Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy opens Saturday — yes, day after tomorrow — at 9 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time (that’s 11 a.m. eastern, 10 a.m. Central and 8 a.m. Pacific).

The week-long institute, offering a wide variety of courses for genealogists at all levels, will be held at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 12-16, 2015. Registration for the courses usually fills up fast, and there are some neat new courses being offered in 2015 that are likely to fill up really fast…

Um… like mine. Richard “Rick” Sayre, CG, CGL, and I are leading a stellar team in a course called The Family History Law Library. It’s a hands-on look at the law and the legal records we need to look at as genealogists — and not just here in the United States. David Rencher, AG, CG, will introduce us to Irish land law and records; F. Warren Bittner, CG, will help us understand German law and records; and Claire Bettag, CG, willmake sure we get a good grasp on the civil law (France, French Canada, Louisiana etc.) and its records.

And that’s just one of the amazing offerings in this week-long winter break institute.

So… mark your calendar, set your alarm, exercise your fingers, and make sure you’re ready, right on time Saturday, to head over to the Utah Genealogical Association website and get yourself registered for the course of your choice.

Here are your options:

Steps to Register

Again, you register by heading to the Utah Genealogical Association website. Once registration opens, a SLIG 2015 Registration menu item will appear in the list on the left side of the website. Registration for UGA members is $375, and if you log-in as a member before you try to register, you’ll automatically be charged the reduced rate. For non-UGA members, it’s $425 — but if you go ahead and join UGA at the same time (it’s only $35 and there are great member benefits!) you’ll get the registration difference refunded.

Step-by-step, registration goes like this:

     • Login as a member by clicking “Members Area” on the menu to the left (skip this step if registering as a non-UGA-member)
     • Click the menu link “SLIG 2015 Registration” in the menu to the left. It will not appear until June 14, 2014 at 9:00 AM (Mountain Time).
     • Fill in your personal information (this will mostly be prepopulated if you are logged in as a member)
     • Choose a track–remember you take this track all week
     • Click submit (if nothing happens you’ve left a required field blank)
     • Choose pay by check or pay by PayPal (you do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal)

See you in January!
